​CONTENT SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

The criteria outlined below is intended to help provide suggested framework for submitting editorial or content for ORLA’s communication channels. Following these guidelines in no way guarantees your submission will be published as submitted. The submission should satisfy the criteria; content is subject to editing for length and content.  ​To inquire about sponsored blog posts, contact Marla McColly, Director of Business Development.
​General Guidelines for Content Submissions (scroll below for Blog guidelines): 
  • Content should provide valuable information on a topic or issue relevant to Oregon’s hospitality industry; sharing personal insight and knowledge is good and encouraged.
  • It should be written in an objective fashion (not self-serving). Submissions which excessively quote or include biographical or gratuitous company information, or which draw specific attention to the company submitting the article rather than the topic at hand, may not be considered.
  • Preferred length for a magazine editorial is 600-800 words; if longer editorial is needed, please request additional space.
  • If the topic is relevant to the overall theme of the issue it helps support an editorial schedule that readers and advertisers expect; however, given the constant changes to our industry and economy, we understand the need to provide more responsive content when appropriate.
  • Submission must include a title and a subtitle and be reasonable in length. The article may be bylined, and a short bio may be supplied with the submission.
  • Byline may include basic contact information such as an email or web address, but not include any promotional message.
  • Content and tone should embrace a standard of excellence using professional literary and grammatical standards.
  • Submission of artwork and/or photos to accompany are recommended as they enhance readership. Appropriate photo releases may be required if the photo(s) include individuals or copyrighted material or trademarked products. Do not embed images in submitted Word document. 

For more information about content submission for the ORLA Magazine, contact Lori Little, Director of Communications. Allied members interested in participating in a podcast and/or presenting a webinar should first submit a proposal for consideration.
​Additional Guidelines for Blog Posts (in addition to above):
  • Blog post should be an easy read. While an article's subject matter may be complex, the writing style and presentation of information and/or ideas should be clear and deliberate.
  • For improved SEO, please include your preferred SEO Post Title and Post Description. (Reference: Page Titles)
  • ORLA may limit the number of guest blog posts based on the editorial calendar. There may be an opportunity for content to be repurposed in other ORLA communication channels.
  • Brief bylines of 25 words or less are allowed to provide context to the writer; member affiliation, email and/or website information is allowed.
