Our industry is uniquely positioned to provide ongoing leadership and promote solidarity at a time of grief and ongoing challenge. We are an industry with more minority-owned and female-owned businesses than any other industry and we will continue to embrace diversity with open arms.
Oregon’s restaurant and lodging industry is about building communities–inclusive of all. We stand with all people of color as we grieve the death of George Floyd. We will not tolerate racism, discrimination or hatred and we will take more proactive steps to make sure we are leading by example. We want to personally thank Michele Leedom with Clinton Street Consulting for engaging ORLA’s professional staff in a series of training sessions devoted to Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) competency. Our sessions started earlier this year before COVID-19 and will continue upon the reopening of the ORLA offices. In addition, we look forward to providing this training within Oregon’s new Tourism Leadership Academy program which is scheduled to launch this Summer after being delayed due to the pandemic and restrictions on gatherings.
We need to do more and we will do more to be a part of the change that must take place in American society.
